Jasper "The Definitive Guide" Books

I've found 2 books on amazon (with not so stunning reviews) on iReports and JasperReports.

The Definitive Guide to JasperReports
http://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Guide-JasperReports-Experts-Voice/dp/1590599276/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1296598169&sr=8-3

The Definitive Guide to iReport
http://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Guide-iReport-Experts-Voice/dp/1590599284/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1296598477&sr=8-1

Just wondering if anyone has used these? Based on the reviews and the fact that they were both published in 2007, I'm worried they won't be that helpful.

The reviews on Amazon are correct. The guides are good as a reference but they are not a learning tool. I have a copies of the ebooks which I look at once in awhile.

If you what to learn more try some the links in the sticky in this forum

If you want to get the ebooks there are update versions (2010) available on Jaspersofts website

Most of what I know I've gained from developing reports and reading post in the forum.

Hi,

I'm a firm believer in the power of the example. Seeing is believeing.

This is why JR has always beend shipped with a comprehensive set of samples that demonstrate its main capabilities and features.

Most of these samples are now documented and if you would search the web for:

jasper sample ref

you would come accross this page:

http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net/sample.reference.html

It explains where you can find the samples, how you can experiment with them and what features are demonstrated by each of them.

Basically, if you want to do something with JR, you just look in one of the provided samples to see how it was done.

Thank you,

Teodor
