Does Jasper reports support temp tables and declare variables?

Hello,
Japsersoft is integrated with one of the enterprise LMS. We have requiements to create complex report for which we need to use the following items
- Temp Tables
- Declare variables and initialize it
Does the jasper soft support the above options? If not is there any workaround?

JasperReports allows users to retrieve data using SQL statements. Users are also able to create variables and parameters to use in reports.

In v6.1, you cannot but it was supported in previous versions. I would like to know if there is some kind of workaround too.
