before clicking Test Connection button application doesn't work. Is it by design?

Probably you haven't entered the values correctly. That said, I remember that there was a bug in earlier version of JasperReports Server with some web browser. Don't know if that your case because you haven't provided any information on JasperReports Server version you're using and about the web browser.

version is 6.3.0. Exact problem is that before clicking Test connection (shown on the attached image) jasper cannot open connectin to datasource. Same is on other version 6.1.1
