That said, I remember that there was a bug in earlier version of JasperReports Server with some web browser. Don't know if that your case because you haven't provided any information on JasperReports Server version you're using and about the web browser. Exact problem is that before clicking Test connection (shown on the attached image) jasper cannot open connectin to datasource.
