how to get the sum of two parameter values

I created a variable and set the variable expression as $P{parameter2}+$P{parameter1}.  Both parameter values' variable class set as java.lang.Double and as well as created variable too.

but I got only a null value as the answer. Kindly help me on this . Thank you.

Looks like what you are doing is right.. Are any of the Parameter values null? Can you post a sample JRXML?

On which band are you trying to pritn the value of the variable ? Try to drag and drop the created varialbe on Title or any band(Except Detail). While you are perfroming dragging and dropping it'll asking you sum , nothing , sub and etc. This will helpful to you. Also check whether you are able to get values into parameters or not( drag the parameters to Title band and have a preview).
