JasperSever has dependencies on an app server and a database.

Many linux distributions come with MySQL already included. Regardless, in the case of redhat/fedora, debian/ubuntu, there are rpm/app-get packages for mysql. So, they can be started with a "service mysqld start"

I'm not sure if there is a service install for Tomcat (which is the most common app server running with JasperServer). But anyway, the point is that if these two packages are added to your /etc/rc.d/init.d then JasperServer will be up and running as a result.

Or did you use the installer to install JasperServer?
