1. I actualy tried this very thing on linux. We are on 3.7 and wanted to get up to 5.6. I installed 5.6 and tried the import from my exported 3.7. Some of my reports work and some dont. I get a error about casting integers to boolean. I would have to back track and try it again for specifics. In any event this aproach has not worked for me as of yet.
2. I'm trying to upgrade a working jasperserver 3.7 ce install on CentOS 7 up to 5.6.1 My 3.7 is using packaged tomcat 5.5 and installed mysql. I downloaded the jasperreports-server-cp-5.6.1.bin.zip and folowed the upgrade directions. I exported my 3.7 data. I then copied and edited the buildomatic config. I then ran js-upgrade-newdb-ce.sh with my exported file. I did recive a "WARNING: JAVA_HOME enviorment not found" It rant eh script and said it succeded. After I started back up jasperserver usign the jasperctl script. Trying to log in I get 404. I can see that the jasperctl script is useing the JRE_HOME in the jasperserver-3.7 dir. Any ideas what happend or what to look at?
3. I'm leaning this way. I also did a successful roll back by switching out the old webapp dir and importing the sql dump.
4. I have been using js ce 3.7.0 in production since teh first of this year. Before that in development for around another six months. I run on Cent OS 5.5 x64 using bundeled Tomcat and local mysql. My production enviorment is stable and I'm having no problems. Recently I started playing around with upgrading to 4.1. I have succesfuly done so in a VM eviorment. I am fairly confident that my reports do not break. Am I crazy to upgrade a working production enviorment? Should I just "Dont fix what is not broken". I like the idea of staying current, however I dont think there are any new features or bugs that are fixed taht I need. Thanks
5. java version "1.6.0_25" Java SE Runtime Enviorment (build 1.6.0_25-b06) Java HotSpot 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b11.mixed mode)
6. Sorry, should have mentioned that I am on the bundled tomcat. I belive that it uses a JVM included in the bundle. I also think that CentOS 6 is using JVM 1.6. I will double check Monday in the AM.
7. I have been working on a new production enviorment using CentOS 6. I'm using JasperServer 3.7.0 CE. I am unable to execute any reports at this point, even the example ones. Here is my error output. org.springframework.web.util.NestedServletException: Handler processing failed; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError 8. Hello, can I upload a xls datasource to jasperserver to use when my report is being run. Another option would be to hand jasperserver the file from webservice. Can this be done, any examples of this. I know how to do it in ireport, and just point to my xls doc, but I want it to prompt the user for a file, and run the report against it.
9. I can not reproduce teh error right now as my tables are dumped, however I can show you the xml and tell you what is going on. Field deff: <field name="tbDate" class="java.sql.Date"> <fieldDescription></fieldDescription> </field> Field display: <staticText> <reportElement x="159" y="298" width="41" height="14"/> <textElement/> <text>TBDate:</text> </staticText> <textField pattern="MM/dd/yyyy"> <reportElement x="200" y="298" width="63" height="14"/> <textElement/> <textFieldExpression class="java.util.Date">$F{tbDate}</textFieldExpression> </textField> The problem is that this value is not always a real date, some times its '0000-00-00'. When it is, the report fails with an error saying that its not a date. I know I can work around this by setting the field as a string, but then I can not use the date pattern to alter the date format (which I want to do)
10. I'm sorry, I should ahve been more specific. My system already has mysql installed, so I just have jasperservers version of tomcat. To get things started I go to /opt/jasperserver-ce-3.7.0 and issue the jasperserverctl.sh command.
11. Hello, anyone care to share an init script for jasperserver? Something to stick in /etc/rc.d/init.d
12. I have a report that retrives a date object that can be 0000-00-00. I would like to continue to use the date field for this data in the report for formating reasons. Is there a way to handle this? Right now my report dies if my data contains 0000-00-00.
13. I found this: http://jasperforge.org/plugins/espforum/view.php?group_id=83&forumid=101&topicid=61248#61268 Maybe I never tried to preview a report that had been deployed that contained resources stored in the repo.?
14. Hello all, I have been building all sorts of reports and a issue crept up today. I can not tell if its the way it always has been, or if something got inadvertantly changed in my development enviorment. I build my report localy and its subreports. Everything works fine. I upload my report and subreport to my jasperserver repo. My report is executed as expected from jasperserver. My issue comes in when I want to do further work on the report. I open the parent report from the repo. If I click "preview" in ireport my subreports bomb out with an error of "Unable to locate the subreport with expression: ""repo:sub1.jrxml"" ". Obviously my report is not looking to the repo to get the subreport. The real question is why. Now if I right click the main.jrxml in the repo structure and click "run report unit" it works as expected and the subreport gets fired from the repo. I could have swore I could run the report localy when opened in ireport for editing. Am I imagingn that? I can just run the report unit, I just feel like I did it right from preview before. Thanks Mike
15. I came up with a workaround, as I figure there is no way to tell the webservice what session to use. This is what I did: 1. In the report and subreports setup a new parameter $P!{TABLE} and use it in the SQL 2. In my PHP script I built a random string generator function 3. Create a new table and name it using the random string function 4. stick my calculated data in the table 5. call my webservice and use the new TABLE parameter with the random name. 6. Delete the table. Everything is working as you would expect!
16. I have a report I built that uses calculated data from my tables. I would like to put this data in a temporary table, then have jasperserver webservice use it. Up untill now I have not been able to get the webservice instance to see the temporay table. Is there a way to do this via php, or must I use a static table for my results for the report?
17. No ideas on this? When I inspect the field in ireport this is what is in the pattern field ¤ #,##0.00 If I replace the square in there it appears to work in the webservice. Post Edited by topkatz at 04/30/2010 12:25 Post Edited by topkatz at 04/30/2010 12:27

19. I have a report which I'm running via the webservice. When I do so it does not print dollor signs were aplicable, it displays a little square type charecter. If I run th ereport from the web portal it displays correctly. This is what I send over to the web service, maybe there is a config item I need to get the charecter to display correctly? Code:<request operationName=\"runReport\" locale=\"en\"> <argument name=\"RUN_OUTPUT_FORMAT\">$format</argument> <resourceDescriptor name=\"\" wsType=\"\" uriString=\"$report\" isNew=\"false\"> null $params_xml </resourceDescriptor> </request>
20. After digging around a bit I realized this is exactly what the web service is intended to be used for. I now have a simple SOAP/PHP script that gets jasperserver to spit out the report to the user.
21. I have a web app Im building and I have been using jasperserver for some of my more complex reports. This web app is to be used in both a intranet and the web. I would prefer to keep jasper as a seamless part off the app, and not require users to login. I also wold like to avoid exposing the jasperserver to the web at all of posible. Is it posible to have php request a report from jasper and have jasper output a pdf file that I then just send to the user as an attachment? This way the server only has to have the jasper user credentials, and I dont need to pass them or the report parameters in the url? I can setup tomcat to use ssl, but to have the user not login I need to send the user credentils in the url, which is a bad idea over the web.
22. got it - right click the report name and add group : (
23. I must be missing something as I can not find were grouping is located. Any help here would be apreciated. BTW - if I try to add it during the wizard it says it failed to create report.

Backup..

The simple anwser to this is, you just have to backup your db. What I did to test all this: - In a VM I started witha fresh mysql install. - restored a backup of my application db - installed a fresh copy of jasperserver - restored my backup of the jasperserver db Everything worked as expected. As long as you use the same db information you should be all set. The only thing Im not sure on is if I installed jasperserver to a new location, ie - not /opt/jasper... Hope this helps someone Mike

Backup..

Nobody wants to share how they handle DR with jasperserver? Is backing up the mysql tables enough? Would a reinstall of jasperserver, then dumping the db's back into a fresh mysql install do the trick?
