How to load externalized font extensions to application class path programmatically using java

We have a requirment (PDF genration) to keep the font extensions (xml and ttf files) outside of application so that it can be updated or added by client  as they want.

Unfortunately i couldn't find a way to load these font extensions in application at tomcat server start up and keeping it in application path.  User guide also didn't specify on this .

Is it something doable?. If yes, how it can be done.

Note: We don't want to export these font extensions as JAR file and keep it in application lib.

Appreciate your inputes
