Special fonts such as barcode, non ascii characters fonts are not getting displayed in Jasper reports

I have requirement where we need to display barcode in report. There is special barcode font which dispalys barcode for the given text expression.
So I have put one text field in the report and set text expression to the desired code  and set font of the text field to the custom font.
I even installed custom font in the Jasper Studio. but report is showing blank report.

Is it related to the character encoding ? we are using plain jasper library (6.2 version) and generating report through java code. I even registered and set custom font in jvm through java code before running report.

But still its displaying as blank.

Should work because I've done the same without any problem. Try it first using Jaspersoft Studio to make sure it works.

It may be the version problem I remember earlier versions of 6.x having custom font problems that was fixed in 6.4. Try with some newer versions.

I found out that barcode comes if i run the report with java 1.7.21 version.

Any version after that ,barcode doesnt come. and we need to use java 1.8
