  2. I would add net.sf.jasperreports.print.keep.full.text =true along with net.sf.jasperreports.export.xls.wrap.text=false, so the text won't be cut off.

I am using JaspersoftStudio Professional 7.1.0 and still cannot convert Excel output string type column from general to txt.Both "detect.cell.type was set to false" or "set element " don't work.
  4. I had the same issue recently. It has been solved by adding <property name="net.sf.jasperreports.export.xls.pattern" value="M/d/yyyy h:mm AM/PM"/> to the cell that need to be formatted. qianyd
