  1. Hi All, we recently moved from JS Pro 3.0 with JA to 3.5. Now we are facing a problem with the MDX OLAP Navigator and our dimensions, e.g., a classical Date Dimension Year->Month->Day. The problem is best described using an example. Lets say, we start at year 2009 and select one measure which is defined as a count distinct measure. A Drill-Down on 2009 displays the months available Jan-Jul AND the total sum row on top. In previous versions of JA it was possible to open up the OLAP navigator and de-select the node for the year 2009. This is not possible anymore, because the checkbox for 2009 is greyed-out (disabled). On this level it is not a big problem, because we could use zoom-on-drill option. But the issue is also present when going from month to day level. Using zoom-on-drill is actually not an option for this task, because all other months available are not displayed then but they are needed for tasks like historical analyis over more than one month on day-level. The sum rows should not be displayed because charts with the sum-row don't scale good enough to show differences, e.g., some numbers in our cube sum up to trillions in a year's sum but the respective daily numbers can be as low as 5 millions. A chart which displays the parent sums will have one peak at the beginning and a flat line for the rest. Is this a configuration issue? or perhaps an user issue? In either case, could you please provide a guideline, how to work around the current situation? I also tested this behaviour on the most recent version of mondrian. There it is possible to de-select the corresponding parent-level node. I have attached some small screenshots to clarify the situation between JA and mondrian. Kind regards, cenbells
  2. Hi Folks, I was asked to give advice to the question how to improve the performance of a Jasperserver w/ JasperAnalysis Installation because the response times are quite high during business hours. Current situation is as follows: One Machine hosting DBMS (oracle) with aggregated data for OLAP, and running tomcat with JS deployed into. The JS is configured to store its metadata (reports, connections, users) in the same db. The Oracle DB is configured to have multiple Tablespaces distributed over several harddrives using partitioning of tables where necessary and bitmap indexes and such to improve DB performance where possible. Total size of DB is around 500GB right now. As mentioned before, the response times of JasperServer (not speaking of Analysis parts right now) are quite high during business hours and therefore one asked how performance can be increased efficiently. First possibility that crossed my mind is, split App and DWH DB. So, setup a new machine with tomcat and move jasperserver installation to it. Eventually move Jasperserver Metadata DB to new AppServer as well. This should be sufficient to increase JasperServer response times. What do you think? If the above solution is advisable another question towards this would be the size of the Hardware running tomcat with Jasperserver. 2 Dual core processors, 16GB memory, and some 100 GB of HD? Is this enough ram or would you go for more. (I know more is mostly better, but it should be reasonable). And yes, machine would be running 64bit OS and Java. Memory allocation should be possible with it. If there is any other possibility to really improve performance feel free to post here. Thanks in advance for all your valuable comments. Kind REgards, CenBells
  3. Hi All, i'm currently somewhat confused about the way the role based security is evaluated and the different documentations about it. I'm currently setting up our user base (about 20 persons). As we want to give the users the possibility to create their own reports / analysis views we decided to create a folder per user on which they have administer rights. Repository looks like /root/Users/<username> First thing missing is the possibility for the users to add resources to the folder. In our installation it is only possible for users having ROLE_ADMINSITRATOR assigned. I hope it is understandable, that this is not an option. Next thing which is not working for the users is the possibility to assign permissions for resources in their folder. According to the various documentations it is also not clear, if this feature is intended or not. Some documentations say, users are able to assign permissions on some resource if they have administer right on some resource. Other documentations state the contrary. I came across the following post in this forum http://jasperforge.org/plugins/espforum/view.php?group_id=112&forumid=102&topicid=36479 which states that is not possible to create new resources for users not having ROLE_ADMINISTRATOR. What about the option to assign permissions? I'm using Jasperserver pro 3.0.0.0 + JasperAnalysis Kind Regards Ken
