Not sure how well that is going to work with dates, you might need to format the date first. 
Why not just used the normal between sql function for dates to achieve what you want ? 

WHERE ((yourdatefield BETWEEN TO_DATE(yourstartdate,  theformatofthedate  )  AND TO_DATE( yourendate,  theformatofthedate ) )
