Printing from print file

2005-12-19 00:38

I want to generate the output of a report as a print file. The print file should be stored in a directory until it is printed. After the report has been printed the print file should be deleted. My questions are:

(1) How can I download a print object to the user's browser for printing on to the printers installed on the client? I have tried downloading it through an applet. Apparently the applet expects the .jrprint file to be inside the .WAR file of the application. Is this right or is there something wrong with my understanding? Is there an alternative to the applet? A detailed response would help since I am new to J2EE.

(2) Can the print file be stored on an HTTP server from where the user can access it & print it?
