dvenus
Hi!-I am installing from the LINUX bin installer. I do not have and will not get ROOT or root like privileges. So my questions are:-1. What in the install requires ROOT privileges?-2. Is there any way to make all the files go the installation directory that I have selected, instead of to places like /usr/local or /etc?- I guess what I am looking for is an install that puts everything under the directory where the Jasper suite is installed and no where else.... A "self contained" install.-3. If the bin installer cannot do that, are there any instructions anywhere on how to do a "manual" install of the products and the required pieces like MYSQL and TOMCAT?-I am new to the Jasper suite. It looks awesome!-Thanks in advance for your time, help and patiencewith my questions.-Dave VenusPost edited by: dvenus, at: 2007/08/14 18:
mryzhikova
Welcome to the JasperServer! You can manually install the product by downloading jasperserver-2.0-bin.zip and deploy it in your specific location by following instructions from JasperServer-install-guide (in the .doc download). Please feel free to post if you run into any issues. Thank you! :)
tkavanagh
Hi Dave, You can use the "war file" manual install as Marina suggests below. Or you can use the linux installer (since it looks like you have downloaded it already). The linux installer does a "self contained" installation as you mentioned. The installer can be executed without being a root user. It will prompt you to enter an installation directory - you can choose a directory that you have permissions to write to (in fact, this would be the default suggestion). You can also choose to use a "bundled" tomcat and a "bundled" mysql. That way, the installer will do everything for you. All files will be put under the installation directory. Except perhaps an installer log file which will go to /tmp. Let me know if you have any trouble. Cheers, -Tony
dvenus
Hi!-The bin file appears to try to write into /etc and/usr/local when installing and configuring MySQL.My user cannot write to either location.-However there is good news! I manually installed thecurrent production version of MySQL. Then installedusing the bin file and choosing the previously installedoption for MySQL. I did have to manually start the JasperServer (jasperctl.sh start). Once that was doneeverything started working.-Thanks for everyones help!-Dave Venus
