I'm designing an invoice, where it is quite simple in that it has a header, a footer section and the invoice lines are placed in repeating rows in the middle. Straight forward enough, but the client wants the invoice lines to have a box around them, and the vertical field seperator lines to be stetched to occupy the rest of the page (ie bit minus header and footer).

 

I have written the report with a simply subreport but the height of the subreport is governed by the number of invoice lines, whereas I want the subreport to fill the available space on the page.

May be not the best solution, but if your header and footer band's have fixed heights, why not to put the box and lines in the background band?

Thanks of rthe suggestion. For this report it works well as the lines are fixed at design time. However I have another report similar but I cannot predict the layout of the columns until the report runs as each row can have a different format.

 

For now though I can progress, but would like a better solution at some time.
