Illegal Group Reference

I am creating a sub-report and have included a parameter to be passed into the report. When I compile everything is fine. When i run the report with a datasource I get an error message after a couple of seconds. It says "Problems occurred creating the new dataSource!! Illegal group reference" If I remove the parameter and change the query to not include the parameter, the report runs fine with no error.

 

Does anyone have any idea what I could do to resolve this error or have any ideas where to look?
