Hello,

I am using ireport 5.0.1 with ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

After opening a jrxml file I  select Preview (with precompilation button result is the same) a windows is opened containing  "i message and null" is opened and the pc is blocked (only way is to turn off/on power).

Did you already experience such issue ?

thanks in advance for your answer.

Best regards, Yves

i was having the same problem using ubuntu 12.04 and ireport 3.7.6, ireport 4.6.0 and 5.0.1. I finally solve the problem by forcing java version to be OpenJDK 7.

I Changed the default Java, and javac version used on Ubuntu by doing:

java : sudo /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --config java

java compiler : sudo /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --config javac

java web start : sudo /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --config javaws

Terrific idea - works here on multiple platforms.

installed jre-7  onto Debian v7.2 upgraded to Linux v3.13.3  with iReport v5.5.0 (linux kit - which has splash display showing v5.5.1)

Can now run iReport programs from 4 years ago, formally on iRport v3.0.0  developed on Windows XP.

Overcame the problem of running on Debian client (above) when the jrxml file involves PARAMETERS which just hung a "filling report".

ALso overcame the message box "NULL" descibed in this post, and premitted a PREVIEW and a COMPILE successfully,

We running all this against databases running on Ubuntu 10.4 LTS and Ubuntu 12.4 LTS servers on a variety of servers around the county and in the cloud.

Terrific clues chaps - much appreciated.,
