iReport 5.0.1 / Ubuntu 12.04 : windows with i message null

Terrific idea - works here on multiple platforms. installed jre-7 onto Debian v7.2 upgraded to Linux v3.13.3 with iReport v5.5.0 (linux kit - which has splash display showing v5.5.1) Can now run iReport programs from 4 years ago, formally on iRport v3.0.0 developed on Windows XP. Overcame the problem of running on Debian client (above) when the jrxml file involves PARAMETERS which just hung a "filling report". ALso overcame the message box "NULL" descibed in this post, and premitted a PREVIEW and a COMPILE successfully, We running all this against databases running on Ubuntu 10.4 LTS and Ubuntu 12.4 LTS servers on a variety of servers around the county and in the cloud.
