Is it possible to dynamicly turn columns off?

I'm trying to replace an old tool called xReporter and one of the things the client here really liked was the ability to turn columns on and off. Is there any way to do this in JasperReports or is display limited by the report description?

You could use a "Print when expression". You could then pass a parameter to the report that would determine whether the item is shown on the report. Only problem is that you would end up with gaps in your columns.
