jbbaird
Besides organizing my data and presentizing it with views, does anyone have a suggestion of a semantic layer similar to the Bus Obj universe? Thanks!
swood
We are designing a semantic layer for JI Professional that will help with ad hoc queries/reporting, and navigation across data sources, reports and OLAP views. No ETA yet. ShermanJasperSoft
jbbaird
Very exciting ... this's seems to be the key to unlocking some corporate doors.
jbbaird
Any update on time horizon info available on the Semantic layer ... I prefer many things about Jasper but am leaning towards Pentaho for this reason. Thanks
swood
A full semantic layer is still being worked on, but we got focused on other areas since my original post. The next release of our Pro product in June has enhanced web based, interactive ad hoc reporting with filtering, sorting, and cross tabs, on top of any data source type managed by JasperReports. While this is not based on a full semantic layer like Business Objects, you are able to give your users "business views" of their data by defining a set of topics that they can interact with via ad hoc. We are also adding the capability to allow users to run a report or OLAP view and save the report parameters used or the current state of their OLAP interaction. jbbaird
Thanks - what you described will go a long way towards acceptance as a BI tool set, not just reporting.
