Landscape Printing on legal size paper

Under JDK 1.3.1, I am able to print to legal size paper in portrait mode, but not in landscape. When I print in landscape, my printer (HP LJ4000) always chooses letter size paper.

 

I modified JRPrinterAWT to show the pageSetup dialog, and when it comes up it shows the page size as being Legal, but it still prints to letter size paper.

 

Under JDK 1.4 (still using the JRPrinterAWT), it chooses the correct size paper. This makes me wonder if this is a problem with the 1.3 JDK. Unfortunately, using 1.4 in production is not an option at the moment.

 

Has anyone else encountered this? Any workarounds/advice?
