Ultimately the solution for me was to i install as root into one dir which completes sucessfuly. Then install into a tomcat owned dir which fails on some sort of permissions issue related to postgres. Then I copied the startup scripts from the non-root user install and chowned everything to be owned by the user that the server will be running under. Started it up and it worked. The moral or take away of the story is that there is an issue with the jasperserver install that has yet to be addressed or has surfaced again with some sort of change. Thanks, J
