I have the same issue with Jasper Reports 4.7.1 on JDK 1.7.0_09 on Windows 7 64-bit. Adding -XX:CompileCommand=exclude,net/sf/jasperreports/engine/export/JRGridLayout,horizontallyMergeEmptyCell to the JVM did not resolve the issue.
