The reason I'm using this product is because you state that it can use multiple data sources for subreports. I've spent days trying to do what you state your product will do. How am I supposed to do this? It seems pretty simple to use the data connection in the second step of the wizard but you can't allow the use of an already defined dataconnection? Help me use this product the way it states it can be used. Seems like a reasonable request to me.
  2. Why wouldn't you make it possible to chose a datasource for a subreport? Why would you wait to put something like that in?
  3. I'm pretty new to this too but I had pretty good luck with the JasperReports 3.5 for Java developers book. I'm using iReports 4 and had to figure out some of the differences but I got the jars to compile and had running code within a day. I hope you have better luck finding answers to your questions than I have. I've been through these forums myself looking for answers and been very disappointed by the lack of good examples. The tutorial section has some good stuff but again it's fairly limited. You can also find some good video on Youtube. I'm trying to simply use a different data source for my report and my subreport. As far as I can tell it can be done using a hack but simply chosing it when creating a report would have been to simple I guess. I'm not giving up but I'm certainly frustrated and would be happy to hear of another reference. Good luck. I think this is a good product and I'm looking forward to understanding it well enough to actually use it.
  4. I'm creating a set of reports and I need to access a different Connection/Datasource for their subreports. I'm using iReport Designer 4.0.1 and accessing an Oracle database. I've created both my connections and tested them. When I try to create my new subreport the wizard asks me for my 'Connections / Data Sources' and I choose it. I continue on until step 7 which asks me if I want to use the same connection or another one. At this point I'm asked to choose the same connection used to fill the master report (which I just said I didn't want to use didn't I?), use another connection, use a JRDatasource expression an empty datasource or no connection at all. My first guess was to use another connection but when I choose this option I was presented with an empty box and no prompts with a button for the expression editor. The same choices when I choose JRDatasource expression as an option. Isn't this what we addressed in the step where I chose my alternate connection? What am I supposed to do with an expression editor? None of my connections are listed and there is no explanation of what to do to create this expression. All I want is an explanation of what I need to do to accomplish this seemingly simple goal. I don't think what I want to do should be this hard. Am I missing something? I've looked through these forums looking for an answer to my problem but could find nothing that seemed current. What I did find was contradictory and incomplete. I joined this forum in hopes that someone would address my question or point me to an explanation. I'm sorry if I sound a little bit bitter but I'm really tired of looking in vain for a solution that should be simple.
