I had the same problem. Upgraded the Apache POI library to the newest Version 3.5 and encountered the "noSuchMethod" exception. You can solve it by using the same POI version, which is included in jaspers lib directory. You can find it here http://sourceforge.net/projects/jasperreports/files/1.jasperreports/ in the source file zip.
