  1. I did find the design query button and went in there and used it to select a table and some columns. However, my question is more specifically about creating a WHERE clause for the query. There is a WHERE node in the query designer, but it doesn't take you to another graphical tool. It takes you to a dialog where you're supposed to type in SQL. Our users can't handle that. Is there a graphical way to create the WHERE clause? Unfortunately, I don't think my boss is interested in bringing NetBeans into the picture. He is trying to size up Jasper and iReport as a replacement for using MS access as an ad hoc query tool. Thanks, E
  2. I'm trying out iReport to assess its capabilities. I'm working with the report wizard. I have selected a table and some columns. So far, so good. I would now like to add a WHERE clause. When I right-click on the WHERE clause node in the tree in the left panel, it brings up an SQL editor. Our end-users don't know SQL, so I would like to find out if there's a way to do this without typing any code. In other words, can I somehow create this WHERE clause just by clicking around in graphical tools? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ethan
  3. Thanks. I looked over the samples and docs. The samples are helpful in seeing what the product can produce. The problem with the outdated docs is that they don't help me evaluate how the current product actually works. I don't see anything in there about the visual query builder, which is the main thing I need. Can you point me to info about that, (for the current version not an outdated version)? Meanwhile, I've installed the product and I'm trying to figure out how it works. Thanks. E
  4. I am trying to understand what I can and can not do with iReport. Is there a features list available somewhere? I wasn't able to find one. I'm looking for some basic info on what the product does, maybe some screenshots and/or examples of use cases, maybe a few examples of the kind of reports it produces. I understand that it has a visual query builder, but it would be awesome to have just a tiny bit more detail than that, such as a couple sreenshots showing the builder in action perhaps. You know, just basic software eval type stuff. Anywhere I can find that? Thanks Ethan
  5. My boss told me to evaluate JasperReports. We need a way for non-technical end users to hook up to our Oracle 9i DB and create ad hoc reports using graphical tools. Our users have a low tolerance for technical detail, so it has to be easy to use. No config files. I get the idea that either iReport or JasperStudio is what I'm looking for, but which one? The website doesn't make clear what the difference is. Can someone shed light on this?
