Group Repeating

I have a report with three group headings:

Group 1

Group 2

Group 3

When the report runs I get 

Group 1 - Value A

    Group 2 - Value B

       Group 3 - Value C

Group 1 - Value A

    Group 2 - Value B1

       Group 3 - Value C

How do I stop a new Group 1 from showing when it has the same value as the previous Group 1? I would have expected to see:

Group 1 - Value A

    Group 2 - Value B

       Group 3 - Value C

    Group 2 - Value B1

       Group 3 - Value C

You will need to add a sort to the report.  In other report engines grouping and sorting is one transaction.  In Jasper, it is two.
