iReport 'print repeated values' checkbox

hi all,

does anyone know the meaning of the 'print repeated values' checkbox in the common tab of the properties windows in iReport? How does its behavoiur change whether the field it refers to is in the Page Header or in a group's header or in the detail band?

Straight from the iReport manual:

 

this option determines whether to print or not to print the element when its value is equal to that which is used in the previous record.
