halex
We are going to try using Jasperserver for our reporting needs, but are unsure if we should install Jasper server on the same server/cluster that the OLAP database is sitting on. The benfit here is that we would more than likely get some HA from installing this on the OLAP environment, but I figure there would be reprecussions when it comes to database performance. What we are really trying to figure out is if we will see a massive performance gain by removing network overhead, and if the outweighs the negative.Thoughts? - Peter
tkavanagh
The most typical configuration (if the system is not a test or evaluation system) is to have the application server (tomcat, jboss, etc) on it's own Application Server and the jasperserver repository database (mysql, postgresql, etc) on the Database Server. The network overhead between the JasperServer web app and it's jasperserver database will not be a problem - assuming you are on a normal local area network. If the two are on the same machine they will end up competing for resources.
