Appending symbol to a currency field

I have to append a currency symbol to a currency field. I have created a parameter $P{symbol} which is a string  and I am trying to append it to a currency field which is a BigDecimal. But i am getting a casting error :

Cannot cast from String to BigDecimal

Please any one help me in this issue at the earliest.

You could convert the BigDecial to a String
