return values from dataset runs?

hi everybody, I have a report containing a crosstab and would like to return a variable from the crosstab / dataset run to the main report. Is there any way to do this?

There is no built-in mechanism to do that.

 

However, you can pass a value holder object as a parameter to the crosstab/dataset and use a dummy expression to copy the value you want to return into the parameter. You can then retrieve the value in the report and use it.

i passed a double object as parameter from the main report to the sub-report but the second part of 'dummy expression to copy the value you want to return into the parameter' is a bit confusing. I have the value I want in a variable field in the dataset but i am not able to assign/copy it to the parameter.
