Returning Values from a Subreport

Hi,

 

In The Definitive Guide to iReport, page 120 in Chapter 8 has a section on return values from subreports.

 

I would have found the section much more helpful had it walked through a simple example, step by step.

 

For example ...

 

Before you can add return values to a subreport, the containing report must have a variable the subreport can populate with the desired value.

 

In the containing report, add a variable:

 

1. Click View >> Variables

2. Click New

3. ... etc.

 

While still editing the containing report ...

 

1. Right-click on the subreport.

2. Select properties.

3. Click "Subreport (Other)" tab.

4. Click "Subreport return values" tab.

5. Click Add.

6. Type in the name of the variable added to the containing report.

7. ... etc.
