Convert Field Type Expression

Hi everyone,

I searched around the forum for this, but I was unable to find anyone posing this question about fields.

 

Basically, I have an xml data source where every tag is of xs:string. Thus, the fields must also be of String type. I would like to convert the field string to an integer so I can use the automatic formatter for the commas. How would I go about this? I know I can change the xml to make it xs:int, but I would prefer to keep it as a string and change it on the template (if possible)
