Documents as Images

I have used the 'iostream' in ireports successfully for images which are stored in a MS SQLServer table column which is defined as 'image'. In this same SQLserver table column [defined as 'image'], documents (.doc,.pdf files) are also stored. When I try to use documents in ireports, I got an error saying "Error displaying report page. See the console for details." But I could not get back to the console; I had to "end task" for the report viewer, which shuts down ireports, then and get back in. I then changed the error handling to display an icon instead of dealing with the error - I do get an icon, but still do not know how to address this problem.

 

This occurs under both 1.2.5 and 1.3.1. Any assistance would be most appreciated.
