I've paid for the iReport documentation, but it doesn't go into much detail about charting.

 

I have a Category Dataset chart that uses a Subdataset and I want to be able to pass a parameter from the main report to the chart based on the current group, so that the chart changes with each group.

 

In chart properties -> chart data -> dataset there is a 'Parameters' tab and a 'Parameter Map Exp' tab. I think I should be able to use one of these to link a field in the main report the a parameter in the subdataset, but I'm not sure how.

 

Does anyone know how to do this? Or am I barking up the wrong tree.

I've worked it out. It work in a similar way to subreports. Just use the Paramters tab and enter the appropriate values....Simple! :)
