i got a module that allow user to filter the data that he want.The user can choose any column to filter. how do i pass the filtered data to the ireport as

there got lots of column and i duno which column that the user will filter. for example..there got 2 column name date and number, user may filter date or number or both....but if i wrote select...from...where date=$P{date} or number=$P{number}...then wat abt if the user wan to filter this 2 columns..?

anybody got idea..? pls help...
