Nothing shows up

I was following the tutorials when I got to the part about the drag and drop. The database connection works fine, the query returns fields and I register them.

 

I can't drag and drop, so I used the "F" symbol for non-static text and I set the textfield expression to "$F{num}" where num is one of the registered fields.

 

When I compile and run the report, it looks fine, except it shows the static text I placed in the header for every grouping but nothing else. If I try a different query it'll return a different number of groupings, so I think it's getting the data but I can't get it to display.

Actually, I just figured this out... but now I can't get all the info to display on one page.. rather it displays one row on each page.

Okay, I figured out that one too, but now groupings are not working properly.

 

I grouped by $F{title_id} but I have multiple sections with the same title_id, like

How did you solve the first issue? I am able to drag and drop a Field Element but when I run the report, that feild is blank. I have checked the sql statement and it runs fine.
