calculating in ireport

 I have a field in a database of type integer, I want the user to input a variable (say .05), then I want the next column to multiply the input number by the variable.  How do I do this??

the one that you want to do is:

 

create a field then set this as prompt so the user may input his/her variable everytime

then use this formula:

 

set the two to double not integer in case of deciaml. then set to display 2 decimal places.

 

new Double($F{field1}).doubleValue * new Double($F{field2}).doubleValue - this is your varialbe then formulathen set the variable calculation to nothing.
