$V{PAGE_COUNT} count the number of rows in page

That's exactly what PAGE_COUNT is meant to do, see http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net/api/net/sf/jasperreports/engine/JRVariable.html#PAGE_COUNT

 

To display the total number of pages in the report, use $V{PAGE_NUMBER} in a text field that has evaluationType="Report".

Please can we have a variable that evaluates to the *current* page number at *report* time, so that we don't have to assemble an ugly mess that doesn't align to either left or right just to report "page X of Y"?

 

E.g. $V{PAGE_NUM_CURRENT}+" of "+$V{PAGE_NUM_TOTAL} to be evaluated at report time. (could the evaluation time be set to "report" automatically if PAGE_NUM_TOTAL is used?)
