    Summary:

    Problem printing charts in PDF

I have a jasper report (designed using iReports) containing several time series plots using jfreechart. When I export to PDF, it looks fine using Adobe Reader. When I print it (through Adobe) all the charts are printed as solid grey blocks (same size and position as actual plots). If I print the PDF as an "image" (this is a print option in Adobe), the plots print fine. I would rather not do this though, as the print files

become very large and take a long time to print. I've tried updating iText, JasperReports, Adobe Reader to latest versions and still get the same problem. I've tried creating various reports (using iReports) containing plots, and non of them print from PDF. I've tried printing from various PCs and using various printers but I still get the same grey blocks. The rest of the report prints fine, its just the graph

    plots which are wrong.

    Hi Teodor,

Sorry, no luck yet. We are still getting the problem. If we view the plots in the JasperViewer, they print fine from that. It's only from PDF I get the problem but

unfortunately that's the format we require. I'm going to try and locate some different printers and test it on those. If that works, I'll put the error down to problems with our printers. If that's the case I'll try and get our IT department to investigate it further. We will need to send these PDFs to customers, so I'm worried they won't be able to print, depending on their printer setup. I'm away for 2 weeks after today, but will investigate further after that. I'll let you know how I get on.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi,

I did not have the "Print as image" option checked on Advanced. I looked again.

I suspect is somehow related to the printer or printer driver. Anyway, hard to solve if we cannot reproduce it.

Hi, I've only printed through Adobe Reader v7.0.7 using a HP LaserJet 8000 and HP Colour LaserJet 8550 PS. Did you have the "Print as Image" option ticked (from the

print dialog select "advanced")? It only fails if tha is not ticked.

    Hi,

I have printed your PDF from Acrobat Reader 7.0.7 on a HP LaserJet 1320 PCL 6 and it looks just fine. What is your print environment? Have you tried printing from different tools?

    Thanks,

    Teodor

Hi, I've attached an example PDF. There are 3 plots on this one. It looks fine in Adobe Reader, but if I try printing it, the plots print as grey rectangular blocks.

If you select "Print as Image" in Adobe, then it will print OK.

    Hi Teodor,

I'm running JR v1.2.2 under Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP1. I was previously using JR v1.2.0, I tried upgrading to v1.2. 2 to see if the problem disappeared but unfortunately I still get it. I have example PDF files if you would like one.

    Regards, Andy.

    Hi,

What operating systems are you running on? And what version of JasperReports are you using?

    Thank you,

    Teodor
