is JDK required for Jasper Reports server?

Dear All,
Is Jasper Reports Server requires JDK to launch reports. We are using 4.7.0 version of Jasper server. For what purpose it requires to have JDK to launch reports.
This is high priority for me. Could you please help me on this.

How are you running Tomcat withou Java?

u need tomcat as a container for jasperserver.
and jdk is needed to start tomcat.
in environment variable JAVA_HOME path must to be added and this JAVA_HOME path is going to add in setclasspath and setenv in <jasperserver>/bin
