Use xls file as template in iReport

Hello,
Could someone please confirm that it is possible/impossible to use an existing xls file as a template for iReport? I have a xls file and i want to be able to import it in iReport (as a template, not datasource), add some more data to it and then export it to xls again.

AFAIK is not possible "out of the box". You may be able to do something by creating a custom exporter that mergers your XLS template with the report output. But I do not think that it will be a trivial process.
