Display data without using Group By in querystring

Hi All, I have a simple query like "select * from emp" in querystring element.But while displaying in the jasper report I want to display the data based on the "Group By" of a column like deptno. Can anybody suggests that ,is it possible to display the data like group by deptno with out having "group By" clause in the query string.Plz reply me soon... Regards Josh
