Adding footnotes

I couldn't figure out how to add footnotes to the text elements contained in the body of the report (or row and column headers). I need to associate a symbol to the main (annotated) text (say "1", or "aa") and then associate some text with this symbol. Then I need Jasper to print the associated text in the footer of the page on which the annotated text is printed. Essentially, it should work similar to the way "insert"-->"Reference"-->"Footnote" option works in Microsoft Word.

I totally second that! I have done regular searches since I started to use JasperReports, but never found any solution.

I am still getting punked by my end-users about this from time to time, and would love to be able to tell them that "now there is a solution for footnotes" :-).
