Mouse Automatically Selects Report Elements

When I am using iReports I often experience a problem with various elements of the report being selected without my pressing any buttons or keys. This happens especially when I am holding down shift to select multiple elements, and other elements will be selected both when I press the left mouse button while over them and also when the cursor happens to roll over or near them. Has anyone else had this problem? I have turned off the center scroll button on my mouse, but this hasn't solved the problem. Suggestions would be appreciated!

The problem appeares when the CPU is overloaded: in this case iReport lost a mouse release event and try to draw the classic selection rectangle. What you see is that moving the mouse a lot of elements are selected (but you don't see the selection rectangle).
