Hey ,the following is the problem I am facing.I have a detasil band which dows not have a fixed height. the problem arises when the column overflows.Firstly it creates blank rows,secondly most of the rows following appear as compresses or overwritten.thanks in advance,

can I ensure that all my columns in detail band stretch equally when overflow occurs with one column.

As this is not happening for xls and it results in a empty row ,with a previous rows column stretching on it.Thanks in advance.

I believe there is an <ElementGroup> tag and you can set a stretch attribute to "relativeToTallestElement"

 

Now, those aren't the exact names, but it should put you on the right track. The JasperReports homepage has a quick reference section that might help you find more details about the tag.
