JasperReports slow on Linux compared to WinXP

I tried JasperReports today. I have to say I am very impressed. It is the best java reporting tool that I have come accross.

 

I tried building a small report today (around 1500 rows - 45 pages). On P4 - 512 RAM... Windows XP takes 15 sec to generate the reoprt while same machine (dual boot) takes 50 sec to generate the report on Mandrake Linux 9.1. I ran the report generator around 10 times to calculate the average time.

 

Also changing fonts makes a lot of difference on report generation.

 

We would like to use JasperReports in our application and we have servers running on Linux. Is there any way to optimize report generation on linux?
