looking for a sample that connect to any datasource and export report file in json format

I am new to jasper community, trying to do a quick POC using jasper library to achieve the retrieve and export using community edition. i.e., 

a. retrieve the data in asynchronous call

b. export the data in json format

for now i am interested only in supporting the retreive and export in json format (presentation is not a primary requirement) 

let me know if jaspersoft library is a right fit for this usecase?

later, i want to use the jasper rest layer to initiate the data export and share the zip link
