Passing parameter to table in Jasper Report

Hi,

I'm trying to apply parameter to table in jaspersoft designer. I'm unable to do it.

I'm writing a query like 'Select * from dual' to main report and writing the main query for table in the dataset. While seeing the preview it is fetching the data from dual table and report is showing blank.

My final goal is to apply parameter to table. Please help me with the screen shots.
