Text field stretches to fit text, but doesn't display the text

Using Jaspersoft Studio on Ubuntu.

Jaspersoft Studio running on ubuntu. A long sequence of text causes the field to stretch like it should, but the text does not display...

The text is just a bunch of two character sequences separated by commas.

Text field has Stretch with Overflow checked, markup set to html, and Single line spacing. Print repeated values is also checked.

Even when I ouput just the XML, the text element that should be there is not. SO it is affecting the layout, but the data itself is never getting passed?

Is this maybe a word wrap issue? I can't find and way to control that though.
