Problem printing in landscape mode.

I created reports using Jasper Studio 6.3.1 and the reports having portrait orientation print as previewed.  The reports having landscape orientation priview as landscape but print in portrait mode and print a large black rectangle at the bottome of each page.  If I export landscape reports to pdf first and then print them they print in landscape.  How can I get the reports to print to the printer in landscape mode without exporting them to pdfs?  I even created a test report with just 4 columns in the detail section and no other fields or sections and recieved the same results.
